Jett was the second newborn who modeled for me for my recent mentoring shots. These are just a few of my favorite images from our time with him.
When I mentoring other photographer, I focus on posing, proper lighting, angles, camera settings, and editing. There is nothing wrong with simple, classic, organic newborn poses. A shot like this will stand the test of time. I often feel that many photographers think the way to grow your business and be a better photographer is to buy things. Props, outfits, and stuff to make it better. In my opinion, that is the wrong approach. It’s not about the “stuff” it’s about the baby. It’s about the rolls, that messy cute hair, those chubby cheeks, and each little perfect feature that you want to remember. The stuff will only date your photos, but a photo like this will be cherished forever. This photo is from a recent mentoring session I did. I feel that if you want to grow your business, safe your money and don’t buy every new prop or outfit you see, invest in yourself and in education. Knowing your camera settings, lighting, posing, angles, white balance, and editing will stand the test of time.
