F.A.Q.

What time of day do you do your outdoor sessions?

I conduct many of my sessions outdoor, and I love using natural light, so I am very specific on the times I schedule my sessions.  I prefer doing family, teen, and individual sessions in the evenings 2-3 hours before sunset.  I understand that some young kids are not has happy in the evenings, so I am also happy to do morning sessions as well.  I like to do my morning sessions around 9-10 a.m. before the sun is too high.  I also have a great in-home studio which is great for newborns, baby, and kids.

What are the best outdoor locations?

I have a large variety of favorite locations on my checklist.  I live in Hurricane, and I love doing a lot of my sessions here because of the old charm and outdoor beauty.  Anything with texture, grit, charm, and color is great.  Check out my past session posts to see some fun local locations I’ve used.  I am also happy to come to one of your favorite locations!  Be sure to let me know if you have something in mindicon smile F.A.Q.

Do you have a studio?

YES!  I generally do all infant sessions in my home studio where they are comfortable, warm, and safe.  I am also happy to do individual children, teen, and maternity sessions in the comfort of my indoor studio.  I don’t have room in my studio for families, so please plan on doing your family session outdoors.  If you choose to book a studio session you will have access to all the outfits, headbands, hats, props, and accessories I have in my studio…and I have A LOT of cute stuff!

Do you provide props and accessories?

Thanks to all of my FABULOUS VENDORS I have a number of adorable props and accessories for both boys and girls.  I have headbands, ties, hats, rompers, skirts, blankets, and many other fun accessories.  Be sure to check out items I’ve used in my past sessions and see if there’s something specific that you like.  You are also welcome to brings and use your own props and accessories if you’d like.  Be sure to include your own personal ideas and color schemes in your client questionnaire so I can cater your session to your style as well.

What should I wear?

What you wear is completely up to you, but I like to work together to ensure that I provide the best location and props to fit your style.  Your clothing can make or break a photograph, so be sure to wear something that flatters you and makes you feel confident.  I love photographing items with color, texture, and grit.  Layers, ruffles, lace, and texture can really add drama to your photos.  Avoid busy prints and logos on your clothing.  I also love hairpieces and hats.  I have a lot of hairpieces and infant hats to choose from, so let me know what colors you are looking for and I can see what I have to coordinate.

How far ahead should I plan to schedule my session?

I can be booked out anywhere from 1-6 weeks.  I only do about 8-10 sessions a month depending on the type of sessions I am doing, so available sessions are LIMITED.  I feel it is important not to over-book myself so I can give extra care and attention to each individual client, and to my family of courseicon smile F.A.Q. Please, if you have a specific time frame in mind, be sure to contact me well in advance to get your session on my schedule.

When can I expect to receive my images?

I take pride in staying on top of things and not falling behind, which is why I feel it is important to limit the number of sessions I do each month.  Depending on the digital package you choose, I will generally have your photo disc to you within 1-2 weeks.  I am happy to say that I rarely make clients wait more than 1 week to see their photos.

Do you travel?

I occasionally travel for photos sessions, but I will add an additional fee for any sessions that are more than 25 miles from Hurricane, Utah.  I also travel to Northern Utah quite often to visit family, and I love doing sessions when I am up there.  I do NOT charge additional fees for sessions within 25 miles of Ogden, Utah if they are scheduled during my family visits.  Watch my Facebook Page for Northern Utah Session Openings.

What type of equipment do you use?

I am a Nikon girl, and I am very specific about the equipment I use.  I have a Nikon D700 and I generally use my 50mm f/1.4 lens.  It is a very fast, sharp prime lens, and it is without a doubt my favorite!  I also use my Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 and my Nikon 70-200 f/2.8.  When outdoors, I pride myself in being a Natural Light photographer, but I always come prepared with reflectors and external flashes so I am ready to get the best photo possible.  I also offer very soft, natural studio lighting in-studio which I love to use!  It gives me the ability to offer sessions throughout the year during any time of day.

Do you retain copyright to the photos?

Yes. B. Couture Photography legally retains the copyright to all images, but will provide you with a print release which you can use to print unlimited enlargement and recommend professional print labs.

jena - i was in SHOCK the other day, when I found my sister didn’t sign a “release” for the photos someone had taken so they could be used for the “businesses” personal use… I found pictures of her family on 3 different sites, with 3 different persons using it as their own! WEIRD! Im glad you do the copyright, makes myself and my family more comfortable!

chelboucher - Well I am so glad my clients are willing to let me use their pics for advertising, but I NEVER post a pic without my watermark to protect myself and my clients :) There are too many crazies out there! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to do your new babies pics, your girls are who really helped me get going, I am still in love with those pics. Just let me know when!

chelboucher - Thank you so much! It is a tricky business to get into, but with a little passion and creativity, all things are possible :) I use both fabrics and vinyl backdrops. I have a background in Interior Design, so I am pretty familiar with the different fabric companies and suppliers, which helps. Let’s just say I am constantly looking for inspiration everywhere I go!

Kelly LaRussa - Hello!
I came across your wonderful photography while looking at an etsy member’s page. I was interested in what your rates are for advertising on your site and getting pictures with the products. Thanks in advance,
Kelly
